If you’ve ever sat at your keyboard or with a pen in your hand over a blank page and thought, “I don’t know enough yet to write a book… i should sign up for more classes,” only to be disappointed, welcome, friend! You’re our people.
Why this?
why now?
As trained educators, every time we purchased a writing class to further our own understanding of craft and were dumped unceremoniously off into a pile of videos, we died a little inside.
you can rarely write alone and get better
The path to becoming a stronger writer is through getting feedback, sharing critiques of other aspiring authors’ works, and reading your own work aloud.
you can’t just take classes the rest of your life
Your stories matter, and taking classes is one way to get them out into the world. The second way is to proactively set aside the time for your author career.
Hi, I’m karen lycan
My lifelong desire to write books led me into the nooks and crannies of the publishing industry and teaching, and out again. I’ve made procrastilearning an art. Now, through the workshops and classes we’re developing here, I hope to shorten your learning curve and help you write the books you’ve always wanted to.
I am the 2021 CenCal SCBWI award winner for Best Picture Book. I write features for a local magazine, and my short story, “Reasons I Quit,” has been accepted for the November 2024 RHS Anthology, “All the Promises We Cannot Keep.”
