Typing “the end” is only the beginning.

That triumph authors feel in typing THE END on that first draft can be fleeting, because those two little words are the beginning of a process. It can take a village to write a solid, commercially-viable story. The process can begin with self-editing is one step, but developmental editing, copyediting, line editing, and proofreading are the steps that follow.

Developmental Editing

Developmental editing should be the first step in your editing journey. This edit provides feedback on story, pacing, character development, plot, but it doesn't require that you have the entire manuscript drafted. This kind of freelance edit can fly alongside you as you draft your work.

What you bring: At least one chapter of content and a maximum of 120,000 words. (Times New Roman 12, double spaced, 1" margins) and a mindset focused on developing your best story.

What’s included: Practical advice for improving your manuscript, including dives into character development, pacing, structure, grammar, flow, and strategies to engage your reader. As we review your work, we may provide in-line comments on grammar and technical issues (Word, Google Docs, or PDF) for you to consider as you revise.

Pricing: $0.03 per word. An invoice will be generated for you upon acceptance in PayPal after you've submitted your word count. 50% due on project acceptance with the balance to be paid at completion.

Spots are limited! We accept 2 developmental editing clients per month. Submit your inquiry for review as the first step.

Can you do all of this yourself?

Yes, you absolutely can.

Through programs like AutoCrit*, ProWritingAid*, and Fictionary.co, you can scrub your own manuscript down to the last dash. They are excellent programs and incredibly thorough. You’re the only one who can determine if they’re right for you.
